Can I drive in France with a UK driving licence?
Yes, a UK licence is valid for driving in France. If you become a French resident, you're required to exchange it for a French licence within one year. The UK and France have a reciprocal exchange agreement, so no new test is required. From May 2026, a fee of around €40 applies for the exchange.
How do I register a foreign car in France?
You have three months from establishing residency to re-register a foreign vehicle. The process goes through the ANTS online portal and requires the foreign title document, a French contrôle technique (equivalent to an MOT), proof of insurance, and a certificate of conformity if the vehicle isn't already French-approved.
